Meeting with the Physiotherapy Board

Below is a list of topics covered on 11 October 2023 when members of the Trust met with members of the Board. The list is concise for ease of reading.

• The scope of practice for physiotherapists. Specifically, the prescription of medications and issuing of ACC medical certificates.
• The independence of ACC, the Board and PNZ.
• Issues around the Advance Practitioner status such as the requirement of a master’s degree.
• Burden of costs of having to belong to PNZ to obtain ACC contracts.
• ACC contract requirements may infringe on the ability to practice physiotherapy as allowed under Board regulations or policies.
• Determining competency should be a Board domain and not ACC or PNZ.
• An update on changes within the Board infrastructure.
• Whether physiotherapists provide medical treatment, reports, and notes.

Other topics were discussed and the Board members were very helpful and receptive to our concerns.
